Seward County Bridges
Board Meeting
Tuesday, February 27, 2007
MHCS Board Room
Present: Lisa Bennett, Denise Janssen, Derek Effle, Mari Koci (for Ron Minchow), Lana Zumbrunn, Lisa Peery (for Monique Ruby) and Kathy Ruzicka. Quorum was not present.
Lisa discussed Orr Psycotherapy request for Bridges assistance in securing grants and using a Bridges account for funding. Orr wants to apply for a state license to administer Intensive Outpatient Therapy Program for Seward County persons convicted of multiple DUIs whom the court orders to attend the program. Orr needs a 40 percent match from the community. Two issues: Can Bridges flow funds to a for-profit organization? Since Blue Valley Mental Health sits on Bridges board, is it a conflict of interest for Bridges to collaborate with Orr?
Lisa asked members present about appearance and content of Bridges annual report. Members present felt an attractive, professional and thorough piece is desired and a helpful marketing tool. Lisa will work on the report.
Lisa said the Bridges newsletter won’t be ready until 3Q.
Lisa advised present members that Bridges budget has a shortfall end of 2007 of $7,580. Derek questioned if new user fees would help Bridges income. After the meeting, Lisa researched new fee structure. An annual fee of 4 percent of average dollar amount retained in an account is charged. However, this is only for accounts whose average yearly balance is more than $3,000, and applies to new accounts established after March 31, 2006. No current accounts meet these guidelines.
Members discussed task forces and committees. Members reviewed current task forces of healthy, family services, economics, government and education. All task forces currently have active programs. Committees are fundraising collaboration, policy and procedure, business and finance and programs and projects. Only active committee of these is policy and procedure. Lana suggested other committees are advisory committees and called to action only in event of particular issue. Committees will meet as needed. Question is – do we need the committees?
Members discussed Bridges purchasing lunch. Options discussed were moving the meeting to a venue where members can purchase or not purchase lunch if they desired. Or Bridges can continue to provide lunch and members who eat can contribute to the bill.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Ruzicka
